This Tequila and Grapefruit cocktail or “The Professor”, as we call it, is a simple citrus cocktail that is the perfect way to celebrate summer! This citrusy cocktail infuses the flavors of oranges, limes and grapefruit in a bright and refreshing drink. This is one of our favorite pool side drinks along with the Italian Margarita and my husbands John’s famous Long Island Iced Tea.

There are other citrus flavored cocktails that we know and love, but sometimes we just want something new. So here you go…a nice alternative to the Margarita and Paloma. The Professor takes what you love about those tasty drinks and adds a little orange to the lime and grapefruit. The result is a refreshing cocktail that reminds me of summer!

For an equally delicious cocktail that is perfect for colder fall days, try the Apple Cider Margarita.

The origins

My sister-in-law, Mary Beth, made this simple citrus cocktail to celebrate my niece’s graduation and I absolutely fell in love with it! Mary Beth teaches at the University of Cincinnati, so we felt that the name of the cocktail should represent it’s creator. She has many talents and coming up with great cocktails is only one of them.

How to make this Tequila and Grapefruit Cocktail

This summery cocktail is as easy as it gets. Just mix tequila, Grand Marnier, lime juice and Fresca, Squirt, or another grapefruit flavored soda in a pitcher, add ice and enjoy. This cocktail is sweet enough without added sugar, so I would recommend using a non-caloric soda. Garnish the glass and pitcher with slices of orange and lime for a truly festive drink.

  • 4 oz Grand Marnier

Notes

I recommend using Fresca, Squirt or another non-calorie grapefruit flavored soda.  The added sugar from a regular soda may make this too sweet and it will alter the nutritional values of this drink.
